Have you ever wondered what a successful wellness initiative would look like in your organisation? Step Forward challenges have helped numerous organisations reach their wellness and employee engagement goals.

To help get your creative juices flowing, here’s how three past hosts designed their stepping challenges and the incredible results they managed to achieve.

How Origin facilitates learning – one step at a time

Online learning is skyrocketing in popularity as one of the most powerful ways to train and engage your internal talent. To help engage learners and increase learner retention, why not drip feed information to your team as they make their way through a virtual map? That’s exactly what Origin did in 2019, sharing important safety information with team members each time they virtually stepped to a new site!

Stepping Together – Cor Cordis boosts employee engagement

If you’re looking to improve team cohesion, why not design your stepping challenge to achieve just that? One of the best ways to do this is to set a group goal that everyone can work towards together. For example, when Cor Cordis hosted their stepping challenge, team members based across four different cities challenged themselves to virtually walk to each office location. And the best part? They did it!

Taking a step towards wellness

Prizes can be used to boost engagement with the challenge; meaning more team members will reap the rewards of a higher daily step count. Rather than prizes for the people with the highest step count, we recommend rewarding people who maintain an average of anything over 10,000 steps per day over the course of the challenge. This ensures everyone has a chance to win, and no one feels discouraged by the resident marathon runner. Team prizes, most improved, and a gold ol’ lucky dip are also host favourites.

Did we mention that the Healthy Workplaces team facilitates all awards and prizes for you? This saves you time and removes unconscious bias!

And there is no need to take our word for it. Healthy Workplaces currently survey users after each challenge. To date, user surveys have revealed that:

  • 94% of participants claim they are now more active during their work day
  • 83% of participants claim they are now more connected with their colleagues
  • Competition, challenge, community, motivation, encouragement, connection were listed as things that participants enjoyed most.
